Comprehensive Cardiac Physical Examinations

Comprehensive Cardiac Physical Examinations

A cardiology consultation starts with a thorough review of your pet’s medical history and your primary care veterinarian’s existing test results. We will perform a full physical exam on your pet to determine the cardiac condition as well as any other comorbidities.

Blood Pressure Monitoring

Monitoring blood pressure is a noninvasive way to assess if your pet has systemic hypertension.

Electrocardiography (ECG) and Holter/Event Monitors

An ECG (EKG) allows us to evaluate your pet’s heart rhythm. ECGs are diagnostic in cases of electrical disturbances (arrhythmias or dysrhythmias), which can cause symptoms such as fainting, weakness and shortness of breath.

Holter and event monitors are ECG units that can monitor your pet’s heart rhythm while he or she is at home. The Holter is typically worn for 24 -ours so we can assess if any abnormal rhythms are associated with your pet’s clinical signs (collapsing, weakness, etc.).

Thoracic Radiography

A thoracic radiography, also known as a chest x-ray, is important in evaluating the size and shape of the heart, great arteries, primary lung disease and fluid in the lungs (congestive heart failure).
